Unter Recycling versteht man die Gewinnung von Rohstoffen aus Abfällen, ihre Rückführung in den Wirtschaftskreislauf und die Verarbeitung zu neuen Produkten (stoffliche Verwertung). Zum Recycling geeignet sind Glas, Papier, Pappe, Kartonagen, Eisen- und Nichteisenmetalle, mit Einschränkung auch Kunststoffe. Voraussetzung ist die sortenreine Erfassung oder die Sortierung der Abfälle.
